We are fortunate to be in a school district where things are going well.  Students come to school prepared and ready to learn.  Teachers are dedicated.  Parents are involved and supportive.  The community support for our school district is high.  If the schools are good, why am I running for school board against an incumbant?  Why not keep the status quo?

Why I'm Running

I firmly believe the status quo of having good schools is simply not good enough.  I know I can do something about it!  When parents talk with me about the education and experiences their children are having in Issaquah School District, I know it can be better.  When I talk with people without children in schools, I know our financial stewardship can be better.  Much as I have throughout my life, I knew I had to get  involved at a substantial level to make a difference.   Read More ...

What I Will Do

Bring Financial Responsibility

  • Total view of costs - how much are you paying for schools in total?  Does the school district know the total target cost per student required to provide the education we expect?
  • Be Proactive instead of Reactive:  Create a long term financial strategy instead of only annual budgets.
  • Fresh Look at Financials and Cost Savings - if you are an incumbent, you think you've found all the areas to be cut and savings to be made.  When you have a fresh view, you can see it differently.  Businesses reorg management frequently to bring new ideas and a fresh view - the same should go for the School Board.   Read More....

Support our Teachers

  • Real education occurs between student and their teachers.  Most people don't know who is on the school board or what it does - I get that.  Everybody knows their kids' teachers and principals.  We must support our teachers to make them successful.
  • School Board must become more involved with teachers and principals, not just the administration.
  • Ensure the teacher evaluation model is implemented and includes parent feedback.  Read More....

Create Long Term Educational Plan

  • Bring innovation to prepare our students beyond being good test takers.
  • Create a multi-year initiative to get in front of future needs and trends instead of being reactive.
  • Must tie back to financial plan and teacher preparedness for success.   Read More....
